Reasons to go back to college

Reasons to go back to collegeThought you were done with school the last time you graduated? You might want to reconsider.

An increasing number of adults are venturing back to the classroom, and the availability of distance learning classes is making that trip much easier.

If you’re looking for a change, big or small, it might just be the time for you to go back to school. Here are some reasons why you may want to consider going [back] to college:

I want a promotion: Diligence, competence, and personality will get you far but maybe not far enough. Moving up to the next rung in the corporate ladder sometimes requires additional education.

I want to change careers: Many times, switching a career requires a massive overhaul of your way of thinking, abilities, and, most importantly, knowledge. Enrolling in a distance learning program will allow you to continue working as you prepare for the big career move.

I need to work on my skill set: At one point or another, many people come to the realization that their current skill set isn’t as developed as they would have liked it to be. Because they’ve been so focused on those skills that they use every day, some of their most basic ones have gotten rusty or they haven’t gained new ones. New and/or advanced skills are always beneficial in both your personal and professional life.

I’d like to learn something new: Nearly everyone enjoys the thrill of learning new content, whether it’s a random fact or the entire history of a field of study. If you have some free time on your hands, taking an online class on a new and exciting topic is a convenient way to satisfy your thirst for knowledge and to feel the rush of excitement again.

Adults going back to school

Great article. Adults that make the brave choice to go back to school need to be sure they are doing the proper research and that they have the time to dedicate, even if the program is online.

I really appreciate people

I really appreciate people who do that. I don't think it's something that everyone should do, it's a personal choice in the end, but I do believe that it can broaden your horizon. My mother decided this year to go back to college, and it was hard on her for a couple of months, but now she loves it and I feel like she's a completely new person.

I agree with the author that

I agree with the author that if you want to get ahead in your career, then acquiring new skill sets may be really important. Investing in higher education pays rich dividends and more and more people are going back to school to earn graduate degrees. Universities are also doing their bit to bring education within the reach of many people who earlier could not think of going to college by providing financial aid. College America, which offers a wide range of degree programs in multiple educational fields also offers financial aid to qualified students.

I decided to go back to

I decided to go back to school because this was what i always wished for myself. I had some financial problems when I had to apply for college, so i had to give up, but i always hoped to continue studies one day. Fortunately few years ago i found out about an online MBA program and i went for it. For me it was like a second chance, because i could study and work in the same time.

 Good point, interiordesignr.

Good point, interiordesignr. Your mention of the recession also reminded me of another reason students would go back to college: if you can afford tuition, then now may be a good time for you to consider online/hybrid degree programs as an increasingly large number of institutions are beginning to offer distance learning because of the influx of students who want an affordable education. The Washington Post just published an article about colleges steering students towards online programs.

Due to the recession and the

Due to the recession and the possible occurrences of something similar to this magnitude, people are now pursuing online education to further their craft and develop new skill sets, if possible. For instance, people in the design industry could take up online interior design courses. The purpose for this is for people to have a backup plan in case they get fired from their current design job. Nonetheless, you made great observation explaining this education phenomena as of late.
