What is: Asynchronous (Distance Learning)
Asynchronous adj : instructor’s delivery of online course content and participation by online students not occurring at the same time.
For those who opt for an asynchronous distance learning course, there are no scheduled online class meeting times and interaction between online instructors and students are normally delayed. Educators rely on discussion boards, e-mails, and prerecorded videos to communicate with their online students.
This type of online education course is usually preferred by students who have less flexible schedules and is ideal for those who wish or need to set their own pace. With asynchronous distance learning, students can choose when to participate every week and can complete their work at any time.
Students who need or desire more structure and established deadlines to ensure a successful learning experience can enroll in a synchronous distance learning class (read the definition of synchronous).
Your thoughts: Have you participated in an asynchronous distance learning course?

Distance learning I have done in the recent past through an undergraduate course. The relationship with course tutors and me, as a student was indeed distant and basically non existents. I found, through experience that distance learning tutors only do the basic contact with students, such as one email to introduce themselves and many times do not answer questions.
