Discus Awards Product Manager

Are you a business development leader and product manager with an entrepreneurial spirit and a drive to create a new business out of a good idea?

Campus Direct, Inc. is looking for an A-level business developer/product manager/product developer to run one of its new business areas. This person will work closely across our team, including tight integration with marketing, sales, design, and technology. This person also will identify and help develop and implement partnerships with complementary companies who can help drive early success.

In partnership with Recognition Media, the company behind The Webby Awards, Campus Direct has launched a new awards program targeted at the untapped market of high school students who excel in multiple areas beyond solely academics. The “Award 2.0” Discus Awards is the only high school awards program honoring the “all-around” student. The award honors students who excel in 3 of 10 “key attributes”, including community service, arts, technology, green, government, academics, athletics, faith, work, and overcoming obstacles. The award is intended to identify students who may not be on the radar for most high school awards – which tend to focus just on stats, grades and scores. We think students who engage in their passions for their own sake in a broad way are worth recognizing, and we do. The award has attracted thousands of nominations, and our judging panel of educational professionals has named thousands of winners, including students from every state and a wide variety of backgrounds. Although this role requires full leadership and accountability over the Discus Awards, every person on our team has input into our broader strategy and business plans.

We are a small, highly motivated and proven startup team which has successfully built and sold two other companies in the higher education industry.

We are looking for:

  • A business developer/product manager who can identify, present and manage relationships with corporate sponsors that will help grow the Discus Awards into a major national high school award
  • A product development guru for websites, who can help translate business objectives into detailed requirements for our technology team.
  • Creative problem solver who understands high school students, particularly their use of social media
  • Quick thinker who can multitask and lead strategy planning and manage the complete business - from operations and site maintenance to customer support to marketing and PR
  • An A-list person who exceeds expectations and has a sense of humor

Skills

  • Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Business Management or a related field
  • Five – six year’s experience working in an online oriented company or environment
  • Business development experience ideally in the education or consumer space
  • Project or product management experience
  • Product development and familiarity with website development from this perspective
  • Good grounding in web usability
  • Familiarity with consumer web & social media is a big plus
  • Understanding of online marketing principles and analytics
  • Excellent written and oral communications
  • Adept responsiveness to user and partner comments and refinement of product objectives consistent with most common issues on an ongoing basis
  • Operations and customer service background a plus
  • A passion for creating great online user experiences

Intern

It’s five minutes in to the first half, and we’re looking for a sixth man to come off of the bench. If you can play multiple roles and can play those roles well… if you will step up when needed and you’ve got the brains and the energy to help grab the win…then take off your warm-ups and join us on the court.

Campus Direct is a small, highly motivated, and proven startup team looking for an enthusiastic and capable intern to become an integral part of this marketing company. You’ll jump straight in to our daily marketing functions and will assist us in gathering data, tracking ad campaigns, managing social and viral marketing efforts, and more. You will also fulfill administrative duties such as scanning documents, making trips to Staples, and coffee runs (just kidding, no, but really, tall double-blended Frap, please).

Campus Direct has just debuted its first core initiative and is in the phases of launching its second. So if you’re interested in being an integral part of something from the start and helping it grow and succeed, we’d love for you to jump in and help us score.

We are looking for:

  • Self-starters with a solid marketing foundation and an eagerness to learn more
  • Multi-taskers who can get the job done
  • Team players who are dependable, responsible, and diligent
  • Quick thinkers with a sense of humor
  • Leaders with a track record of exceeding expectations at every stage in their education and career
  • People who love the idea of creating something new and different

Job Qualifications:

  • 4-year college degree (preferably in marketing)
  • Previous experience in marketing, advertising, or related fields
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

This is a paid contract position with an immediate start date and 40-hour work weeks; candidates who understand sports analogies will get bonus points.
